Latest News - April 2009

Since August 2008 we have raised more than £36,500 for Grace Secondary School.  So far £17,000 has been sent to the Sudan to fund the first stage of the first phase of the building work.

Bricks have been made (the cheapest option and one that creates work for local people)  and the road to the land has been cleared by locals who where supplied with food and drink to help them complete the hard work in the blazing sunshine.  The foundations are now being dug and soon we hope to be able to show you photographs of the classrooms as they emerge.  Traditionally local people collect stones to be used in the buildings, these stones are not just practical, they are also symbolic of the villagers' ownership of the project.

There is a great deal of excitement on the ground about the work and hope that it will be completed in time for the school to open in October.  This will require a total of £73,000.  The amount has increased with the fall of the Pound, but some materials have become cheaper. But we are still hopeful that we can achieve it in time.  After all, we never imagined we'd get this far so quickly.
There are so many ongoing fundraising events...you can look at the details on our website. You may like to consider becoming a business or individual sponsor.

There are also far too many people to thank individually.  But you know who you are.  Thank you so much from us and from the children of Kadugli.
